Flow injection assays with chemiluminescence and bioluminescence detection — A review

Abstract: This paper reviews publications that combine the technique of flow injection (FI) with chemiluminescence (CL) and bioluminescence (BL) detection, from the earliest papers in 1979/80 to mid-1992, and refers exclusively to reactions occurring in solution. Air-segmented systems and liquid chromatography with CL detection are not considered unless FI has been used to pre-optimize the system. The applications have been categorized in terms of the type of CL reaction; there are separate entries for luminol, peroxyox… Show more

“…This has been achieved by a combination of more sophisticated on-line sample treatment, eg the use of solid phase reagents to preconcentrate selected analytes and/or to remove the sample matrix, and the use of more inherently selective CL reactions. For an historical perspective on the development of FI-CL the reader is referred to two previous reviews (228,229) that cover the periods late 1970s-mid-1992 and 1991-mid-1995, respectively.…”

“…Chemiluminescence detection for chemical analysis has attracted great interest in recent years due to its potential for very low limits of detection, and its application to detection for flow analysis and HPLC has been the subject of several reviews (27)(28)(29)(30)(31)(32)(33).…”

“…In recent years, chemiluminescence detection methods, especially those using peroxyoxalate esters, combined with HPLC have become powerfuls tool for the sensitive determination of biomaterials (Givens et al, 1990) and many applications have been published (Kwakman et al, 1992, Robards et al, 1992, Lewis et al, 1993. TCPO and DNPO have generally been used for this purpose.…”
