“…Currently, in the scientific literature, there are no studies published on lactic acid in fingerprints. However, one article by Pérez‐Ruiz discussed the decomposition of lactate with an unidentified degradation product in presence of iron upon irradiation with UV or visible light (14). The pyruvic acid M ·+ ion at m/z 87 was monitored in all the samples analyzed and correlated with the amount of lactic acid.…”

“…During ordinary metabolic activity with sufficient oxygen supply, the reduction of pyruvate to lactate is poorly active in normal cells, which usually degrade pyruvate to CO 2 through the TCA cycle and re-oxidize NADH through the mitochondrial respiratory chain. This can be also deduced by the low blood lactate concentration measured in normal, resting individuals (<1 mM) [22]. In normal cells, a rapid NAD+ regeneration, as that afforded by the LDH reaction, could usefully contribute to avoid perturbations of the redox status.…”

“…Lactate (2‐hydroxypropanoate) is very important in food analysis for assessing the freshness and stability of the products. In addition, lactic acid is applied topically for the treatment of hyperkeratotic skin disorders and verrucae 181. Gomes et al182 have described the construction and evaluation of a sol–gel biosensor coupled to a sequential injection system to accomplish the quantification of lactate in pharmaceutical products.…”
