Fluorescent Labeling of Silica Gel Powder using Zingiber Montanum Extract fora Bright Latent Fingerprint Detection under UV Light

Abstract: This research was to study the preparation of fluorescent dust powder to enhance the detection of ultra-bright latent fingerprints using natural plant extract associated with adsorption on silica gel particles by a simple and cheap method environmentally friendly. To study the physical and chemical properties of the fluorescent powder, various factors affecting the latent fingerprints detection including different surface characteristics, temperature, time, and overlapping passive fingerprints were investigate… Show more

“…Inorganic-based fluorescent materials such as rare earth doped fluorescent NPs, fluorescent carbon quantum dots, noble metal nanoclusters and persistent phosphors are reported for the development of LFPs but due to high cost and low reproducibility restricted their use in forensic science. [26][27][28][29][30][31][32] However, chemical methods in combination with optical techniques could be alternative in certain crime cases In this context, organic-based fluorescent materials for visualization of LFPs in powder dusting and spraying methods can be presented as an alternative in certain crime scene situations and can provide images with high quality and contrast. Moreover, AIE-active fluorescent powder can be adsorbed on matrices (which are < 10 nm range, non-toxic, biocompatible and have excellent physicochemical properties) to image high quality fingerprints on different porous and non-porous surfaces.…”

“…In forensic investigations, powder dusting technique is extensively used, however use of non‐fluorescent aluminium powder‐and‐brush technique caused damage to LFPs and developed images are of low contrast. “…The medicinal dust powder can be prepared inexpensively and is environmentally friendly. 42 , 43 Most of the chemical compounds of each medicinal plant are shown in Table 1 . It is shown that almost powder compound is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, meaning the powder is not toxic to the human body.…”

“…A variety of efforts to develop rapid, sensitive, and economical techniques for the detection of latent fingerprints have emerged in the past few years [1]. To date, these techniques including powder dusting [7][8][9][10][11], fluorescent dye staining [12,13], ninhydrin spraying [14], cyanoacrylate/ iodine fuming [1,15], vacuum metal deposition, and small particle reagent method [16][17][18][19][20] are the most widely used due to their simplicity, efficiency, and ease of operation. Although these traditional methods are effective under ordinary circumstances, there are still numerous challenges to visualize latent fingerprints with high contrast and low background interference on multicolor background, and there is an urgent need in seeking simple and efficient methods for developing the latent fingerprints with improved contrast, sensitivity, and selectivity.…”
