Fluorescent Property of Chitosan Oligomer and Its Application as a Metal Ion Sensor

Abstract: An aqueous solution was successfully prepared using a low-molecular-weight chitosan oligomer and FITC, and its structural and fluorescent properties were observed by using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, XRD, UV-Vis, and PL spectrometry. Its application as a metal ion sensor was also evaluated. The fluorescence in the water-soluble chitosan oligomer was a result of the carbamato anion (NHCOO-), and a synthesized FITC-labeled chitosan oligomer exhibited an effective detection effect for copper ion as well as energy tra… Show more

“…These results are consistent with the relationship reported for solutions of CS polymer . Of note, CS oligomers express a decrease in fluorescence intensity when greater than 0.5% w/v solutions are used . Fluorescence emission spectra revealed a broad peak with maximum at 450 nm (Figure c).…”

“…Metal-ion sensing behavior of CS-Ac-An toward Cu(II) was studied using the fluorescence emission properties of the modified chitosan. While the adsorption spectra do not show any substantial change in the presence of Cu(II) species (Figure S6), the fluorescence emission of CS-Ac-An undergoes notable quenching [65][66][67][68][69]. Different excitation wavelengths were tested and showed a trend for the λ ex -dependent-λ em behavior.…”

“…The reaction was then carried out at various reaction temperatures (30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 °C) while stirring. CHI-FITC was used for the preparation of CHI-FITC/AgCl NPs in the previous study [ 19 ]. For the synthesis of CHI-FITC, an aqueous solution of CHI was added to an ethanol solution of FITC and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 h in a dark room.…”

“…Therefore, in this study, AgCl NPs were prepared using CHI and CHI derivatives as eco-friendly stabilizers. The formation behavior of NPs was observed using the fluorescence properties of CHI and CHI derivatives reported in previous studies [ 19 ].…”
