“…Participant consent was inferred by commencement of the survey. Recruitment of participants took place from 26–29 June 2020 through the online portal Amazon Mechanical Turk to complete the survey instrument [ 12 , 13 ]. Requirements for survey participation were to be 18 years of age or older along with a requirement to reside within the United States and have a HIT Approval Rate >98%.…”

“…The survey instrument included several components which aimed to answer different research questions. Elements not included in this study were previously reported by Dolan et al and discrepancies in inclusion/exclusion criteria resulted in different final sample sizes [ 12 ]. Fourteen questions were modified from the revised Morgenstern PA questionnaire (PAQ-M) by Rubenstein et al in 2011 [ 14 ] to assess time spent in different activities during the previous week.…”

“…Acrolein is a highly reactive unsaturated aldehyde that exhibits cytotoxic and broad-spectrum antimicrobial activities (Stevens and Maier, 2008;Engels et al, 2016b;Zhang and Schwab, 2022). In addition, acrolein has recently been reported to be involved in the detoxification of xenobiotic heterocyclic amines (HCAs) (Zhang et al, 2019a;Zhang et al, 2019b), which can be produced during the cooking of meat due to the high-temperature pyrolysis of amino acids and are suggested to be involved in the initiation of colorectal carcinogenesis (CRC) (Bouvard et al, 2015;Dolan et al, 2021;Kang et al, 2022). The transformation of HCA yields acrolein conjugates (Beer et al, 2017) with reduced cytotoxicity and mutagenicity, and may be beneficial for the host by decreasing HCA exposure and thus reducing CRC risk (Zhang et al, 2019b).…”

“…In most cases, CBMs are mixed with flavoring agents (e.g., benzaldehyde, ethyl butyrate, and acetoin), adipocytes (fat cells), and myoblasts (muscle cells), and then textured . CBMs combined with the above-mentioned components can raise serum cholesterol (approximately 20%), elevate blood pressure (20–30%), and may lead to the development of several diseases, such as pulmonary hypertension (9–37%), hyperlipidemia, and colorectal cancers, which are related to high protein/fat diets and characterized by an increased body mass index. , To date, there are two main strategies for CBM production: direct manipulation of bovine muscle cells, which includes the isolation, expansion, and mass production of bovine muscle cells, or generation of muscle progenitors from induced pluripotent stem cells cultured using a bioreactor . The first method is considered safe for human consumption. The nutritional value of cultured meat also depends greatly on the cryoprotectants used for storage.…”
