Foreign direct investment in an emerging country: a Brazilian case of a triple helix as practice

“…It can then be seen that, with a few minor differences, the HT MICRON project has reproduced the same functioning, which demonstrates the learning effect that the HT MICRON project has had, despite a change of actors and stakeholders during the process, thus benefiting from a real transmission of experience. In the case of the establishment of the semiconductor manufacturing company HT MICRON on the UNISINOS University campus, we demonstrated in our research that through "Do It Yourself" and strategic improvisations, the network of actors involved has been part of a triple helix as practice strategy in the territory (Coussi, Faccin, and Balestrin 2018).…”

“…“Exploratory methods such as case studies have been recognized as being particularly useful for examining strategies in emerging markets” (Bianchi, 2014, p. 59). The choice of case study as a methodology therefore follows the principles outlined by Stake (1995) and Coussi et al (2018). These scholars have argued that a case study analysis, if done in depth, can maximize what can be learned.…”

“…Ghali and Rezgui (2011) believe that backward linkages also prompt the enhancement of technical efficiency of local enterprises through three ways: first, scale effects deriving from the increased demand for local inputs from foreign affiliates; second, technical, organizational and managerial support given by foreign firms to increase their quality of inputs; and third, competitive pressures motivated by the opportunity to be an exclusive upstream supplier for foreign firms. Besides, it is held that foreign knowledge stock can be transferred through FDI, which exerts positive effects on host countries’ technical efficiency (Wang et al , 2012; Coussi et al , 2018; Liu, 2019; Park and Roh, 2019).…”
