Formation of nanoparticles in aqueous solution from poly(ε-caprolactone)–poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(ε-caprolactone)

Abstract: The amphiphilic triblock copolymer of poly(ε-caprolactone)-b-poly(ethylene glycol)-b- poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL–PEG–PCL) was prepared by ring opening polymerization of PEG and ε-caprolactone in the presence of stannous 2-ethyl hexanoate (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst. The structure of triblock copolymer was characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1 H NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The polymeric nanoparticles were prepared… Show more

“…These peaks are absent in the FTIR spectrum from the empty PEG–PLA nanoparticles. The absorption band at 1180 cm −1 , 1748 cm −1 and 2930 cm −1 may be attributed to C–O stretching, C–O stretching, and C–H stretching in PEG–PLA, respectively 34. These peaks appear in both the quercetin loaded PEG–PLA nanoparticles and the empty PEG–PLA nanoparticles (Figure 2b).…”

“…An FTIR spectrum of synthesized PCEC triblock copolymer is shown in Figure 1. The absorption band at 1725 is related to stretching vibration of carbonyl group which confirms formation of copolymer (Ryu et al, 2001;Nguyen, 2010). Aliphatic CH stretching band of polyethylene oxide (PEO) and caprolactone were appeared at 2854 and 2923 cm-1 respectively.…”

“…According to ISO-10993-5 [ 85 ], the RCV (%) values plotted in Figure 6 could be considered to be non-toxic. Additionally, growth of cells kept in contact with non-cytotoxic blank (drug-unloaded) NPs has been described to be not hindered, even at high concentrations [ 129 , 130 , 131 ]; as a result, proliferation can continue under in-vitro conditions. On the other hand, experimental results from the ex-vivo hemocompatibility assays of γ -Fe 2 O 3 and ( γ -Fe 2 O 3 /PLGA)/CS particles demonstrated a negligible effect on haemolysis, platelet activation, complement system activation, and plasma clotting time was observed ( Table 2 ).…”
