Formation of scalar hair on Gauss-Bonnet solitons and black holes

Abstract: We discuss the formation of scalar hair on Gauss-Bonnet solitons and black holes in 5-dimensional Antide Sitter (AdS) space-time. We present new results on the static case and point out further details. We find that the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet term has an influence on the pattern of soliton solutions for small enough values of the electric charge. We also discuss rotating Gauss-Bonnet black holes with and without scalar hair.

“…We investigate in detail the dependence of the pattern of solutions on the scalar field mass and charge considering negative and positive values for the mass alike. The work extends the analysis of [15] and of [25] to now include positive values for the mass such that the solutions with scalar hair in our case can be interpreted as charged boson stars in (4 + 1)-dimensional global AdS.…”

“…As before (12), we have to compare the free energies of solutions in the same theory and so we have to impose the same periodicity conditions at the boundary β b = β s and L s = L b . The hairy AdS soliton has a negative energy (the AdS space in planar coordinates has zero mass) and it is the ground state of the theory.…”

“…It would be interesting to see how these results extend to rotating and even time-dependent black holes. First steps in this respect have been done in [21,30,10], but a lot of work is still necessary.…”
