Formation of the hollow nanopillar arrays through the laser-induced transformation of TiO2 nanotubes

Abstract: In the following article, we present a simple, two-step method of creating spaced, hollow nanopillars, from the titania nanotube arrays via pulsed laser-treatment. Due to the high ordering of the structure, the prepared material exhibits photonic properties, which has been shown to increase the overall photoefficiency. The optical and morphological changes in the titania nanotubes after pulsed laser-treatment with 532, 355, and 266 nm wavelengths in the 10–50 mJ/cm2 fluence range are studied. The investigation… Show more

“…The titania nanotube synthesis was reported previously elsewhere. , Prior to anodization, the titanium plate was ultrasonically cleaned in acetone, ethanol, and subsequently water. Single-step anodization of the titanium plate was performed in an electrolyte containing diethylene glycol/water/HF (69/5/1 vol %) and 9.4 mM NH 4 F. The anodization voltage was 30 or 40 V (as indicated in the text), the polarization time was 2 h, and the temperature was 40 °C.…”

“…However, the effects of irradiation vary greatly when it is applied toward a free-standing (or self-standing) nanotube morphology [ 43 ]. Due to of the spacing between the nanotubes, the melted upper part cannot connect to the neighboring nanotubes; therefore, a uniform layer cannot form on top of the structure.…”
