Formulation and characterization of fast dissolving tablets using salvia hispanica (chia seed) mucilage as superdisintegrant

Abstract: Gums and mucilage are mainly explored for its various applications in dosage form development. Salvia hispanica (Lamiaceae) i.e. Chia seed mucilage mainly composed of xylose, glucose and methyl glucuronic acid that forms a branched polysaccharide of high molecular weight. The present study strives to investigate the disintegration ability of Salvia hispanica mucilage in the formulation of fast dissolving tablets of selected model drug indomethacin. Indomethacin belonging to the category of NSAIDs and is used a… Show more

“…Blended CM and nanocellulose fibers (added at 3% and 6% concentrations) were categorized as biodegradable, biocompatible, nontoxic, antioxidative and antimicrobial [108]. In powdered form, CM has been reported to be super-disintegrant, making it suitable for use in fast-dissolving tablets [109].…”

“…The use of mucilage enabled the incorporation of high levels of OECV (up to 64 mg. mL -1 ), contributing positively to the increase in oil's antibacterial and antioxidant dose-dependent activities [72]. Madaan et al [73] developed indomethacin tablets using MChS as a disintegrating agent. The formulation with 6% mucilage obtained the best parameters of hardness (D, 3.2 ± 0.02 kg.…”

“…Chia seeds are egg shaped and gray with black and white stains, bearing a width of about 2 millimeters (0.08 inches). Chia ( Salvia hispanica L.) belongs to the class Labiatae which is originated from Mexico, Northern, and Guatemala (Madaan et al, 2020 ). Chia ( Salvia hispanica ) is an annual blossoming plant.…”
