Abundance assessment of Sulawesi Banded Swallowtail Papilio gigon gigon and availability of resource plants in Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 25: 673-682. The Sulawesi Banded Swallowtail (Papilio gigon gigon Felder & Felder, 1864) is an endemic butterfly species of Sulawesi, Indonesia currently under threat from hunting and trade activities and habitat degradation. This study aims to examine the abundance of P. gigon gigon and resource plants' availability and to analyze the relationship between resource host and nectar plant density with the abundance of the butterfly species in Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data were collected using the line transect method in two habitat types: settlement and forest located in three observation sites (Bantimurung, Leang-leang, and Pattunuang). The data were analyzed with Spearman's correlation test. The results showed a significant positive correlation in Bantimurung between the host plant densities (r = 0.258; p = 0.010) and nectar plants (r = 0.211; p = 0.036) with the abundance of P. gigon gigon. In Pattunuang, the host plants had indicated an insignificant correlation (r = 0.061; p = 0.548) with the abundance of P. gigon gigon, and in contrast, the nectar plants showed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.487; p = 0.000). Only in Leang-leang the correlation between the abundance of P. gigon gigon showed no significant correlation with both host (r = 0.152; p = 0.132) and nectar plants (r = 0.041; p = 0.686). Differences between the observation areas were suspected to be influenced by human activities such as tourism and hunting. Therefore, management interventions by the national park are required to support the conservation of P. gigon gigon in the area.

Di tengah urbanisasi dan pembangunan yang terjadi di Kota Semarang kebutuhan akan ruang terbuka hijau sangat diperlukan. Taman kota adalah bentuk ruang terbuka hijau yang salah satu fungsinya yaitu sebagai habitat beragam flora fauna di Kota Semarang. Kupu-kupu merupakan fauna yang cukup sering ditemukan di kawasan urban namun keberadaannya masih kurang diperhatikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman jenis kupu-kupu yang ada di 6 taman kota Semarang. Pengambilan data dilakukan menggunakan metode transek dengan tiga kali ulangan di masing-masing taman kota. Hasil penelitian menjumpai 43 jenis kupu-kupu di taman kota Semarang yang termasuk dalam 5 familia yakni Papilionidae, Pieridae, Nymphalidae, Lycaenidae dan Hesperiidae. Analisis keanekaragaman jenis kupu-kupu di taman kota Semarang menunjukkan indeks keanekaragaman jenis kupu-kupu berada dalam kategori sedang dengan rentang nilai 2,42-3,05 dan indeks kekayaan jenis berada dalam rentang nilai 3,6-5,39. Kemerataan jenis kupu-kupu di taman kota Semarang memiliki rentang nilai 0,85-0,92 dan tergolong dalam kategori kemerataan tinggi.Kata kunci: taman kota, keanekaragaman jenis, kekayaan jenis, kemerataan jenis, kupu-kupu

Studies on butterflies in the Philippines are scanty and some areas still need to be explored, especially in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. The current study provided information on the species composition and status of true butterflies in Lauan Eco Park and Bood Promontory Eco Park, Butuan City. The studies employed transect walks and opportunistic sampling using insect net-sweeping techniques. A total of 218 individuals of true butterflies belonging to 37 species, 24 genera and four families were documented. 34 species belonging to 22 genera were observed in Lauan Eco Park, while 12 species belonging to 10 genera were recorded in Bood Promontory Eco Park. Of these, the family Nymphalidae was the most represented group having 20 species (54.05%) in two sites, followed by the family Pieridae with 11 species (29.72%); the family Lycaenidae with four species (10.81%); and the family Papilionidae as the least represented group with only two species (5.40%). Regarding national status and endemism, 25 (71%) out of 35 species were common, 1 (2.70%) rare species, 1 (2.85%) rare Mindanao endemic and 8 (22.85%) were Philippine endemic species; five (5) species were rare Philippine endemics and four (4) species were common Philippine endemics.As for the local status, 25 species were assessed as very rare, seven (7) were rare, three (3) were common and two (2) were very common. New locality record of Ptychandra lorquinii plateni and Mycalesis igoleta were reported in Agusan del Norte. Lauan Eco Park showed a higher number of individuals (156) than Bood Promontory Eco Park (65). Diversity assessment using the Shannon-Weiner index showed a high index with H = 2.92 in Lauan Eco Park compared to Bood Promontory Eco Park with H = 1.933. The species richness, abundance and diversity of butterfly species, plus the presence of rare endemic species in Eco Parks, are essential for conservation and protection as a habitat for butterfly species.
