Formulation of Gel Hand Sanitizer of Nagasari Leaf Extract (Mesua ferrea L.)

Abstract: Nagasari (Mesua ferrea L.) is one of the biodiversity to be developed as an antiseptic preparation. These plants are known to contain flavonoid compounds, tannins, and terpenoids that act as antibacterial. Hand sanitizer gel preparations can increase the effectiveness of topically. The physical properties of a good gel depend on a gelling agent, one of which is HPMC. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in HPMC levels on physical properties and antibacterial activity. Gels were p… Show more

“…Therefore, selecting the correct Carbopol concentration is crucial to ensure emulgel dosage forms have the desired spreadability. 74 The adhesion of the three formulas meets the requirements for good adhesion, which is more than 4 seconds, 69,75 as shown in Table 3. Adhesion and spreadability are inversely related, which means that dosage forms with a lower spreadability will have a longer adhesion time and vice versa.…”

“…The thicker the gel produced, there will be a decrease in dispersion while the thinner the gel produced, there will be an increase in dispersion. The greater the dispersion of a preparation, the faster it will penetrate or absorb on the skin [20]. The resulting preparation meets the expected specifications, which is easy to pour and During storage, the pH of hand sanitizer decreases (Figure 5).…”

“…17,32 Propylene glycol is a co-solvent commonly used as a humectant. 17,33 Carbomer is a gelling agent commonly used in making gels. This gelling agent has physicochemical properties, and the concentration of gelling agent used also affects the gel preparation produced.…”

“…The spreadability of a good topical preparation is between 5-7 cm. 33 The spreadability is critical in applying the preparation on the skin, where preparation with good spreadability will provide an even distribution of doses on the skin. 29 The results of the spreadability test of peel-off mask preparations of red dragon fruit extract and corn starch of the three formulas were in the range of 5.5-6.5 cm (Table 4.…”
