Fount, fate, features, and function of renal erythropoietin-producing cells

Abstract: Renal erythropoietin (Epo)-producing (REP) cells represent a rare and incompletely understood cell type. REP cells are fibroblast-like cells located in close proximity to blood vessels and tubules of the corticomedullary border region. Epo mRNA in REP cells is produced in a pronounced “on–off” mode, showing transient transcriptional bursts upon exposure to hypoxia. In contrast to “ordinary” fibroblasts, REP cells do not proliferate ex vivo, cease to produce Epo, and lose their identity following immortalizatio… Show more

“…419,420 LIE or KIE activation is crucial for HIF-2 to bind HRE promoter and induce EPO expression. 421,422 In liver, HIF-2, while the isolated HRE exhibits a preference for binding HIF-1α, the HRE within the native Epo 3' enhancer shows a stronger affinity for HIF-2α. 423 This preference is facilitated by cooperative interactions with other transcription factors that are bound to the promoter, the 3' enhancer, or other cis-acting sequences.…”

“…Сигналом к выработке эритропоэтина служит снижение парциального давления кислорода в крови. При нормальной оксигенации мРНК эритропоэтина в почечной ткани практически не определяется [10]. При развитии гипоксемии запускается транскрипция гена эритропоэтина (EPO).…”

“…Tissue oxygenation regulates the production and release of EPO in response to hypoxia, as well as the expression of its receptor [4]. Epo dysregulation unavoidably leads to erythrocytes production disorder in the bone marrow [7].Abnormal endogenous erythropoietin production has been reported in lymphoproliferative disorder patients [8] . One results of this disorder causes anemia; Anemia is a common clinical characteristic that adversely affects the prognosis of B-CLL patients.…”
