“…The prevalence of asymptomatic meniscal tears in the dog has yet to be established but there is an increasing number of surgeons that do not advocate inspection of the meniscus at the time of stifle stabilisation nor meniscectomy of asymptomatic meniscal tears in the dog (Jandi & Schulman , Rutherford et al . ). Further studies are warranted to determine the prevalence of asymptomatic meniscal tears in the dog.…”

“…2006, Fitzpatrick & Solano 2010. Currently, there is an increasing number of surgeons who advocate neither inspection of the intra-articular structures at the time of stifle stabilisation (Jandi & Schulman 2007, Harasen 2009, Luther 2010, Rutherford et al . 2012 ) nor routine MR due to the detrimental joint effects and their reported low rate (2·1%) of LMT (Gatineau et al .…”

“…A prospective ultrasonographic study of the patellar tendon and periligamentous changes at consistent time points and with correlation to clinical signs of patellar tendinopathy is warranted. Recent reports of successful outcomes after TPLO without concurrent inspection of the meniscus or meniscectomy of asymptomatic meniscal tears have prompted questions regarding the role of intra‐articular evaluation prior to TPLO . The influence of the surgical approach to the joint on postoperative radiographic PTT detected in our study justifies a future study including a group of dogs without stifle exploration prior to TPLO.…”

“…Arthroscopy (AR), craniomedial parapatellar arthrotomy (CrMA), and caudomedial arthrotomy (CdMA) are widely accepted for intra‐articular inspection and management of meniscal lesions. Controversy exists regarding the benefits and requirement of stifle joint exploration prior to TPLO, with the argument that asymptomatic meniscal damage may not require treatment in humans . Extrapolation of these results leads to questioning the requirement for joint inspection in dogs without meniscal injury or those that have meniscal injures but are asymptomatic.…”

“…An increasing number of veterinary surgeons do not advocate inspection of the meniscus at the time of stifle stabilisation (Jandi & Schulman , Rutherford et al . ). Naturally, further studies are required to determine the prevalence of asymptomatic meniscal tears in the dog.…”
