Context: Colorectal and breast cancer are of particular cellular preventive concern. WIDR cells are an indicator of colorectal cancer development, while HTB and 4T1 cells are involved in breast cancer. The Chromolaena odorata was reported to interfere with the growth of the three cancer cells. Aims: To evaluate the bioactivity of C. odorata against the cytotoxicity of colorectal and breast cancer cells. Methods: Ethanol extract of C. odorata leaves was examined to find chemical compounds by GC-MS, quality of antioxidants by DPPH assay, and antioxidants quantity by flavonoids and phenolic assay, whereas ionic values were evaluated by the multi-tester meter also cytotoxicity on the WiDr, HTB, and 4T1 cancer cells by MTT assay. Results: C. odorata contained six antioxidant compounds with quality above 80%. Alpha-amyrin has the most retention time of 38.112 min. The C.odorata had an antioxidant rate (IC50) higher than vitamin C. Total flavonoids (72%) higher than total phenolic (28%), and both have a significant impact on the WiDr, HTB, and 4T1 cancer cells (p<0.05). The value of ionic dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and total dissolved solids was 33%, respectively (p>0.05).The C. odorata had a higher cytotoxicity effect on the 4TI and HTB cells in breast cancer than WiDr cancer cells in colorectal cancer. Conclusions: The C. odorata has significant antioxidant quality and quantity with a stable ionic value also has a cytotoxic effect on the WIDR, HTB, and 4T1 cancer cells.

Since decades ago, humans have been using natural products such as plants in medicines. Currently, traditional medicine has become popular. Plants contain numerous phytochemicals that may act synergistically through different mechanisms for prophylaxis and therapy of diseases. This study evaluated the anti-oxidative and wound healing activities of Chromolaena odorata methanol leaf extract using mature male rat models. Phytochemical analysis, acute toxicity study, anti-oxidative potentials as well as wound healing activities of the leaf extract were assessed. In anti-oxidative study, the effects of Chromolaena odorata methanol leaf extract on malondialdehyde (MDA) and catalase were tested. In the wound healing, excision wounds were created on the back of the rats and the wounds were treated with three different doses of Chromolaena odorata methanol leaf extract embedded in petroleum jelly. Cikatrin powder and petroleum jelly served as positive and negative controls respectively. The phytochemicals present were alkaloids, flavonoids, proteins, tannins, and steroids. LD50 ˃ 5,000 mg/kg body weight was noted. In anti-oxidative assay, the leaf extract had better lipid peroxidation inhibition. The 500 mg/kg body weight of the extract reduced MDA to 5.63 ± 0.33 x 10-5 µmol/ml compared to 14.16 ± 0.59 x 10-5 µmol/ml obtained with distilled water. The 5% and 10% extracts had better percentage wound healing of 95.52% and 97.14 % respectively than cikatrin which had 87.95% after 12 weeks of treatment. Chromolaena odorata methanol leaf extract had good safety profile and a dose dependent increase in wound healing that is significantly (p ˂ 0.05) more potent than cikatrin.

Inflamasi adalah respon protektif normal terhadap luka jaringan yang disebabkan oleh trauma fisik yang dapat diobati dengan menggunakan obat antiinflamasi. Namun obat antiinflamasi dapat memberikan efek samping yang cukup serius. Karena banyaknya efek samping dari obat antiinflamasi, maka dikembangkan obat bahan alam dari tanaman sebagai antiinflamasi yaitu tumbuhan kirinyuh (Chromolaena odorata L.). Chromolaena odorata L. memiliki kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder, salah satunya adalah senyawa flavonoid yang memiliki aktivitas antiinflamasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak etanol daun kirinyuh (Chromolaena odorata L.) terhadap besarnya penurunan volume udem pada kaki tikus jantan galur wistar yang diinduksi karagenan menggunakan pletismometer dan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak etanol daun kirinyuh (Chromolaena odorata L.) terhadap kadar interleukin 6 (IL-6) pada tikus jantan galur wistar. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik laboratorium. Pengujian ini dibagi menjadi 6 kelompok yaitu kontrol normal, kontrol negatif Na-CMC 0,5%, kontrol positif deksametason 0,75 mg, dosis ekstrak 75 mg/kgBB, 100 mg/kgBB dan 125 mg/kgBB. Hewan coba diinduksi dengan karagenan 1%, Satu jam setelah inflamasi, hewan coba diberikan perlakuan menggunakan larutan uji sesuai kelompok masing-masing dan diambil plasma darahnya untuk dilakukan analisis kadar IL-6 pada ELISA Kit Reader.Dengan menggunakan metode ELISA kompetitif. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan One-Way ANOVA dan dilanjutkan dengan uji Post-Hoc LSD. Hasil pengujian terhadap tikus menunjukkan bahwa secara signifikan ekstrak etanol Chromolaena odorata L. memiliki pengaruh terhadap penurunan kadar interleukin 6 (IL-6) pada hewan uji yang mengalami inflamasi dibandingkan kontrol negatif (p<0,05) dan tidak jauh berbeda dengan kontrol positif (p>0,05).
