Frequency ambiguity free tiered differential‐polyphase codes for GNSS signal design

Abstract: To resolve frequency ambiguity of tiered polyphase code (TPC), a differential encoding method to the secondary code of the TPC is proposed. By performing differential decoding, the frequency ambiguity is removed and the code sequence boundary is correctly found. In addition, the correlation results at the receiver can be used as a frequency offset estimator. Analysis on the receiver operations and the simulation results show that the proposed tiered differential‐PC makes the code sequence boundary detection co… Show more

“…Generally, secondary codes used in GNSS are generated by combining 1 and 0. However, a secondary code using the Zadoff-Chu sequence, a polyphase code, has also been proposed [3]. This secondary code is Tiered Differential Polyphase Code(TDPC).…”

“…Applying differential decoding at the receiver side removes Doppler. In [20], the authors propose differential polyphase codes to resolve the frequency ambiguity. Another implementation of differential encoding/ decoding is demonstrated in [21].…”

“…Tiered Polyphase Code (TPC) structures have been proposed to reduce intra-system interference as well as increase processing gain by applying non-binary polyphase codes to the secondary codes. [1,2] On the other hand, with the proliferation of GNSS services, attempts have been made to simultaneously transmit more service signals using the same frequency band. Simultaneous transmission of three or more signals may degrade the power efficiency of the satellite high power amplifier.…”
