Abstract: We examine the link between narcissism and creativity at the individual, relational, and group levels of analysis. We find that narcissists are not necessarily more creative than others but they think they are, and they are adept at convincing others to agree with them. In the first study, narcissism was positively associated with self-rated creativity, despite the fact that blind coders saw no difference between the creative products offered by those low and high on narcissism. “…Nevertheless, narcissistic individuals tend to emerge as leaders in organizations, for they have compelling, even gripping, visions for firms (e.g. they do not try to understand the future, rather they attempt to create it), and they have the ability to attract followers through their public speaking, which makes them charismatic (Goncalo et al, 2010;Maccoby, 2000).…”

“…According to Gardner and Avolio (1998) "charismatic leaders are exceptionally expressive people, who employ rhetoric to persuade, influence, and mobilize others", and this allows them to improve their levels of creativity and innovation. Many papers analyse the effects of narcissistic personality on business performance: Chatterjee and Hambrick (2007) and Wales et al (2013) claim that narcissistic CEOs tend to generate extreme performance,…”

“…Among the Dark Triad traits, narcissism consistently positively predicts leadership selection (Grijalva et al, 2015; Higgins & Judge, 2004) and hiring decision (Higgins & Judge, 2004; Paulhus et al, 2013). Some research has noted that people high in narcissism who are confident, outgoing, charming, attractive, and entertaining (Goncalo, Flynn, & Kim, 2010; Holtzman, Vazire, & Mehl, 2010) are likely to emerge as leaders (Brunell et al, 2008; Grijalva et al, 2015; Harms, Spain, & Hannah, 2011; Ong, Roberts, Arthur, Woodman, & Akehurst, 2016; Paunonen, Lönnqvist, Verkasalo, Leikas, & Nissinen, 2006). Moreover, Lindley (2018) has noted that those who are highly in narcissism are much more likely to be employed as managers.…”

“…This demonstrates that Narcissists like to brag about themselves and their achievements on social networks more than non-Narcissists people. A study by Goncalo, Flynn & Kim ( 1996) looked into weather Narcissists are really better, more creative and more talented than non-Narcissist people, or if they simply brag about it and are then perceived by others as similar to what they say. Goncalo, Flynn & Kim (1996) did three different studies ofNarcissism:…”

“…This study suggests that to capitalize on the Narcissists, nonNarcissist people need to collaborate with the Narcissist people and encourage them to collaborate with each other. " In doing so, groups could turn what could be a decidedly negative trait into a valuable source of creative tension" (Goncalo, Flynn & Kim, 1996).…”
