From Bricks to Buildings

Abstract: Presently, health care simulation research is largely conducted on a study-by-study basis. Although such "project-based" research generates a plethora of evidence, it can be chaotic and contradictory. A move toward sustained, thematic, theory-based programs of research is necessary to advance knowledge in the field. Recognizing that simulation is a complex intervention, we present a framework for developing research programs in simulation-based education adapted from the Medical Research Council (MRC) guidance… Show more

“…However, with its improving usability and effectiveness based on increased satisfaction, knowledge, skills, and practice behaviors, it is now imperative to integrate simulation properly throughout education curriculums (e.g. nursing) [3]. Programs can no longer rely on this 'add-on' notion because simulation opts as a replacement for traditional and often rare clinical experiences, and allows learners to develop skills, clinical reasoning, and care competency [4].…”

“…The use of partnership training with other centers can be considered as a working model. [11131516] One of the greatest appeal of simulation is its ability to offer a diversity of courses and training, utilizing a variety of modalities. For a new simulation center, it becomes crucial to define the spectrum and range of training and courses to be offered.…”
