From knowledge sharing to firm performance: A predictive model comparison

Abstract: This study investigates how knowledge sharing (KS) contributes to firm performance (FP) through the enhancement of innovation and/or intellectual capital (IC) using data collected from Chinese high-technology firms. The paper proposes three alternative models that suggest different mediating roles of innovation and IC components in the KSFP nomological network based on existing theory. The paper then compares these models in terms of in-sample explanatory and out-of-sample predictive powers using consistent p… Show more

“…The second, the willingness of employees toward collecting and sharing knowledge is suggested having positive effect on many key outcomes of an organization such as organizational performance (Garcıa-Morales et al, 2008;Wang et al, 2016); employees' affective commitment (Li et al 2015); organizational citizenship behaviors (Jo et al, 2011) and so on. However, few researches test the influence of KS on competitive advantage.…”

“…Consequently, this study focuses on investigating the relationship between knowledge sharing and the two aspects of innovation capability to generate competitive advantage for firms. Innovation speed reflects the ability of firm in shortening the creation of new products, service or processes relative to the key competitors (Allocca & Kessler, 2006;; and innovation quality reflects the ability of firm in improving new management, processes and supply new products and services with better quality than key competitors (Wang et al, 2016;.…”

“…These scales were developed by Arag on-Correa et al (2007) and García-Morales et al (2008). Ten items adapted from the research of Wang et al (2016) were used to measure innovation speed and quality. Innovation speed was measured by five items reflecting, for example, the firm's ability to accelerate the creation of new products or processes relative to competitors.…”

“…Depending on the criteria, innovation can be classified into various categories, such as product innovation, process innovation and managerial innovation (Liao et al, 2007). Wang et al (2016) separated innovation into innovation speed and innovation quality. Innovation speed reflects a firm's ability to minimize the time required to create new products or processes relative to its competitors (Allocca and Kessler, 2006).…”

“…Marketing performance is a concept used to measure and assess the extent to which market achievements have been achieved by a product produced by the business organization through marketing activities (Wu, 2015). Some researches showed that knowledge sharing gives effects on marketing performance by giving knowledge to business organization to develop marketing so as to generate significant marketing performance (Wang et al 2016). Therefore, based on the existing literature and theory, the following hypothesis can be formulated: H3 (Knowledge sharing has a positive influence on marketing performance).…”
