Full-mouth rehabilitation of a patient with severe attrition using the Hobo twin-stage procedure

Abstract: Excessive occlusal wear can result in pulpal injury, occlusal disharmony, impaired function and aesthetic deformity. Loss of anterior guidance can result from severe wear of anterior teeth, which protects the posterior teeth during excursive movement. The collapse of posterior teeth also results in the loss of normal occlusal plane and the reduction of the vertical dimension. This clinical report describes the use of the Hobo twin-stage procedure for rehabilitation of a patient with severe tooth wear, resultin… Show more

“…The hypoplastic type has well-mineralized enamel, but its quantity is reduced [ 5 , 6 ]. The VDO was raised by 2 mm since the patient had a reduced VDO and a 5 mm freeway space [ 10 , 11 ]. As anterior teeth wear away, it facilitates the loss of anterior guidance that protects the posterior teeth during excursive movements.…”

“…Based on patient's moderate loss of vertical dimension, a hypothetical increase of 3 mm in the vertical dimension of occlusion was carried out using a Lucia jig and interocclusal record based on the evaluation of the mounted diagnostic cast in centric relation. (5) Then the maxillary cast was mounted using face-bow transfer onto a semiadjustable articulator and the mandibular cast mounted using the Lucia jig and centric relation record. Occlusal plane was determined using Broadrig's Flag Method (Fig.…”
