Functional aftereffects of intraparenchymatous injection of human fetal stem and progenitor cells to rats with chronic and acute renal failure

Abstract: Chronic renal insufficiency was modeled in rats by unilateral nephrectomy and electrocoagulation of both poles of the remaining kidney; acute renal failure was induced by 90-min clamping of the vascular pedicle of the only kidney. Injection of unfractionated culture of human fetal kidney cells or bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into damaged kidney restored its function in rats with chronic renal insufficiency (observation period up to 2 months). After 2.5 months a relapse of chronic renal insufficiency was … Show more

“…Characteristics of the enrolled studies are described in Table . All of the studies were focused on MSC therapy of AKI (included 12 studies) and CKD (included four studies). AKI was mostly induced by cisplatin, glycerol and IRI, while CKD was mainly caused by 5/6 subtotal nephrectomy.…”

“…MSCs can be mobilized from the bone marrow into the circulation and move to tissues injured by ischaemia, using a mechanism similar to chemotaxis (Kale et al ., ). Additionally, MSCs are able to restore kidney function even in cases of chronic renal insufficiency (Kirpatovskii et al ., ). All these observations lead to the extensive use of MSCs as part of co‐culture systems to promote both renal tissue repair and regeneration.…”

“…O surgimento da terapia celular com células-tronco vem sendo considerada uma técnica promissora no tratamento de diversas afecções, pois vários estudos têm demonstrado uma grande capacidade de melhora na função de órgãos lesionados, inclusive os rins (KIRPATOVSKII et al 2006;SEMEDO et al, 2009;VILLANUEVA et al, 2011;DONIZETTI-OLIVEIRA et al, 2011).…”
