“…IAP is a family of antiapoptotic proteins and plays important roles in both apoptosis and innate immunity (Leu et al, 2008). Both BmIAP and baculoviruses encoding IAP had an inhibitory effect on apoptosis in insects (Hamajima et al, 2016;Ikeda et al, 2011). A recent study reported that the Bmiap gene might be hijacked by BmNPV iap genes during BmNPV infection owing to the direct interaction of BmNPV IAP1 and IAP2 with BmIAP in silkworm cells (Chen et al, 2019).…”

“…Bombyx mori IAPs (BmIAPs) can inhibit the apoptosis of silkworm cells and inhibit silkworm apoptotic proteins (Yi et al, 2017). Hamajima et al (2016) demonstrated that BmIAP1 acts as a key negative regulator of apoptosis by interfering with caspase cascades in cells. Based on the available genomic data, 52 apoptosis-related candidate genes have been identified in silkworms (Courtiade et al, 2011), including five caspases (Zhang et al, 2010).…”

“…Recently, Op‐IAP3 was reported to inhibit virus‐induced apoptosis by interacting with the Spodoptera frugiperda iap ( SfIAP ) gene (Byers et al ., ). In Bombyx mori , an important model organism for Lepidoptera, we previously identified four IAP family members (Zhang et al ., ), among which the survivin gene was reported to play a role in the cell apoptosis induced by viruses (Tang et al ., ), and the iap 1 gene was involved in the negative regulation of apoptosis in BM‐N cells (Hamajima et al ., ). In addition, two iap genes were identified in the genome of B. mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) (Gomi et al ., ; Cheng et al ., ).…”
