“…In the mushroom bodies of the honeybee brain, the antagonists induce a reduction of the activity of cytochrome oxidase (CO), a mitochondrial enzyme whose activity is used as an indicator of neuronal metabolism ). Imidacloprid at 10 -4 M induces an increase of CO staining in the same structures, indicating brain metabolism activation (Armengaud et al, 2000). In this context, we make the hypothesis that nicotinic agonists, like imidacloprid at sublethal doses that do not affect the global behavior of the honeybee, can improve learning abilities.…”
