Functionalization of aerogels by the use of pre-constructed monomers: the case of trifluoroacetylated (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane

Abstract: A novel strategy for aerogels' functionalization, based on the preliminary modification of monomers before gelation, is proposed.

“…10,11 For example, Lermontov et al acetylated amine terminated aerogels with the readily available reagent, methyl triuoroacetate. 12 The authors also synthesized a uori-nated reactive silane and employed it as a co-monomer with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) to prepare uorinated aerogels and it was determined that the method of uorine incorporation produced samples with different specic surface areas. It should be noted that a yield was not reported for the monomer that was synthesized.…”

“…According to our data, the type of SCF used in the synthesis of oxide aerogels considerably affects AG microstructure [24][25][26][27]. Thus, the specific surface area of AG based on SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , and ZrO 2 prepared by supercritical drying in diethyl and methyl tert-butyl ethers and in hexafluoroisopropanol is approximately twice as large as that of aerogels obtained by drying in traditionally used ethanol; their porosity is also considerably larger.…”

“…The choice of the solvent greatly affects the composition and microstructure of thus obtained materials [12,[15][16][17]. In vanadium oxides aerogels synthesis, V 2 O 5 Á nH 2 O wet gel is generally used as a precursor [3][4][5][6][7].…”
