Fungal decay resistance of wood reacted with phosphorus pentoxide-amine system

Abstract: Resistance of wood reacted in situ with phosphorus pentoxide-amine to the brown-rot fungus Gloeophyllum trabeum and white-rot fungus Trametes versicolor was examined. Wood reacted with either octyl, tribromo, or nitro derivatives were more resistant to both fungi. Threshold retention values of phosphoramide-reacted wood to white-rot fungus T. versicolor ranged from 2.9 to 13.3 mmol, while these for brown-rot fungus G. trabeum ranged from 8.1 to 19.2 mmol. Wood reacted with phosphoramide tested to be more resis… Show more

“…59 Still, a particular focus should be given to the (e) band, related to antisymmetric PO 2 À stretching (B1230 cm À1 ), to the (f) band, arising from the symmetric PO 2 À stretching (B1063 cm À1 ) 60 and to the (g) band, possibly related to the P-N phosphoramide and to dianionic phosphodiester vibrations (B930-966 cm À1 ). 61,62 Furthermore, in a parallel control experiment, GQDs-ED were linked to 5 0 -Phos-DNA only via non-covalent interactions (i.e., without EDC/1-MeIm), and the recorded FTIR spectrum showed differences in comparison to the GQDs-DNA, which may suggest that covalent bonds occur when using the normal experimental conditions (Fig. S8, ESI †).…”
