Collaborative support between teachers is crucial to school success. Communication, openness, and participation are key for creating a climate of trust. Professional relationships based on trust contribute to the development of a common vision for the school. However, building a collaborative atmosphere is challenging. A systematic review was performed to identify strategies for promoting staff collaboration with a view towards school improvement. Based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement guidelines for systematic reviews, we selected 18 articles focused on different approaches to building collaborative environments in schools. The main finding was that the most widely used collaborative modalities were related to instructional processes and improving student academic performance. Factors that hinder the establishment of a collaborative school culture were related to teacher reluctance to sharing and exchange of practices, lack of engagement, and teacher training. Educational leaders were also seen to play a key role in the development of cooperative environments and effective leadership delegation.

No contexto escolar, a colaboração entre bibliotecários e professores exerce um papel fundamental no desenvolvimento do processo de ensino e aprendizagem, enriquecendo significativamente a experiência educacional dos alunos. Este estudo explora o trabalho colaborativo entre bibliotecários e professores na Rede de Bibliotecas Escolares da Prefeitura Municipal de Vila Velha, no Estado do Espírito Santo, Brasil, analisando o papel da colaboração como fenômeno e como prática de ações mediadoras da informação por meio do Programa de Competência em informação. A mediação da informação faz parte das atribuições do profissional bibliotecário tanto no tratamento técnico quanto na facilitação do acesso aos recursos informacionais. A competência em informação, por sua vez, também correlacionada ao trabalho do bibliotecário, se destina promover o desenvolvimento de atitudes, habilidades e competências nos alunos, capacitando-os para a utilização crítica dessas informações. Neste sentido, há sinergia entre bibliotecários e professores, o trabalho do bibliotecário se traduz em um apoio inestimável ao processo de ensino e aprendizagem. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória e descritiva, com abordagem qualitativa e quantitativa. Para a coleta de dados foi enviado um questionário semiestruturado para os bibliotecários da Rede de Bibliotecas da Prefeitura Municipal de Vila Velha, ES, Brasil. A análise dos dados se baseou no método Análise de Conteúdo. Os resultados desta pesquisa revelaram uma clara demonstração de interesse e engajamento por parte dos bibliotecários em colaborar efetivamente com os professores. Foram destacadas várias ações colaborativas empreendidas, destacando os benefícios tangíveis dessa colaboração para os estudantes. O estudo contribui para o aperfeiçoamento das práticas colaborativas entre esses profissionais, bem como para o fortalecimento do papel das bibliotecas escolares no ambiente de aprendizagem, por meio da atuação do bibliotecário como um mediador e um educador.

Collaboration in Higher Education focuses on the opportunities and challenges created by engaging in collaboration and partnership in higher education. As higher education institutions become ever more competitive to sustain their place in a global, neoliberal education market, students and staff are confronted with alienating practices. Such practices create an individualistic, audit and surveillance culture that is exacerbated by the recent COVID-19 pandemic and the wholesale ‘pivot’ to online teaching. In this atomised and competitive climate, this volume synthesises theoretical perspectives and current practice to present case study examples that advocate for a more inclusive, cooperative, collaborative, compassionate and empowering education, one that sees learning and teaching as a practice that enables personal, collective and societal growth. The human element of education is at the core of this book, focusing on what we can do and achieve together: students, academic staff, higher education institutions and relevant stakeholders.
