Fused Filament Fabrication of Bio-Based Polyether-Block-Amide Polymers (PEBAX) and Their Related Properties

Abstract: This paper describes the application of poly(ether-block-amide) polymers, so-called Pebax, in fused filament fabrication (FFF). Pebax® is a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), a copolymer based on rigid polyamide and soft polyether blocks. By variation of the blocks, unique properties such as soft or rigid behaviour are tailored without additional additives and plasticisers. Pebax®Rnew® polyamide blocks are bio-based and made from castor beans that allow the design of sustainable applications. In this study, two ty… Show more

“…Peak values of Tan δ reported for PEBAX are all below 0.16, which is a consequence of the absence of any side groups in its backbone structure. [ 47 ] On the other hand, the presence of numerous −CH 3 side groups in the PEA backbone can significantly enhance the energy absorption capacity. The Tan δ peaks for all five TPAEs are higher than 0.16, as reflected in the test results.…”

“…Pebax Rnew polymer is synthesized by the polycondensation of renewable polyamides (PA11) with an alcohol-terminated polyether. 21 Martı ´nez-Izquierdo et al synthesized Pebax Rnew membranes for single and mixed gas permeation studies. Compared to other Pebax grades, 1657 and Rnew exhibited superior separation performance due to the presence of polyethylene oxide as the soft segments, which show more interaction with CO 2 gas molecules.…”

“…PEBAX@2533 [80PTMO/PA12] is an elastomeric block copolyamide with high processability [ 1 , 2 ], mechanical strength [ 3 ], and high-performing permeability to vapors and quadrupolar and condensable gases [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ]. These features make it particularly attractive and competitive for applications in wearable textiles [ 8 ], industrial equipment [ 4 , 9 , 10 ], microelectronics [ 11 ], and environmental protection [ 12 ].…”
