Fuzzy smart failure modes and effects analysis to improve safety performance of system: Case study of an aircraft landing system

Abstract: Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) is a safety and reliability technique that is widely used to evaluate, design, and process a system against diverse possible ways through which the potential failure has a tendency to occur. In conventional FMEA, the risk evaluation is determined by risk priority number (RPN) obtained by multiplying of three risk factors—severity, occurrence, and detection. However, because of many shortages in conventional FMEA, the RPN scores have been widely criticized along issues … Show more

“…Second, various risk factor weighting methods have been appeared in some literature. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP), 18 the ordered weight averaging operator (OWA), 19 and the entropy‐based weighting method 20 are widely applied to derive the weights of RFs. Additionally, some methods considering the relative importance of RFs are reported in the literature.…”

“…In a simple word, while evidence is set to the child node, backward belief propagation can be obtained, and it gain the probability distribution of parent node(s). While the reverse conditions are true, the prior hypothesis could be received from objectivity such as an observed data within a frequentist approach or subjectivity such as experts' judgments or [33][34][35][36].…”

“…In OHS risk management practice, the most critical step is the risk assessment of occupational hazards, which aims to ensure the health and safety of workers and minimize the losses and damages 4 . Recently, a growing number of studies have focused on the OHS risk assessment in various industries, covering construction, 5 manufacturing, 6 transportation, 7 solar energy, 8 and so on 9–11 …”
