Fuzzy Spatiotemporal Data Modeling and Operations in XML

Abstract: Because increasing requirements of fuzzy spatiotemporal applications are attracting much attention from both academia and industry, it is challenging to model fuzzy spatiotemporal data and effectively operate them. However, various researches are studied in traditional databases that impose strict restrictions, and relatively little work has been carried out in modeling and operating fuzzy spatiotemporal data in XML. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to model fuzzy spatiotemporal data based on XML. On… Show more

“…However, there exist the problems of information imprecision and fuzziness in many spatio-temporal application domains. 9 In other words, spatio-temporal information is often fuzzy in the real-world applications. In GIS system, for example, the exact location of a moving car is unknown, but its possible locations may be defined as a certain area at a certain time.…”

“…In order to deal with the fuzziness and imprecision of spatio-temporal objects, several efforts have been made to model fuzzy spatio-temporal objects and their topological relationships, such as fuzzy set theory-based methods [15], [16], rough set theory-based method [17], point-set topology [13], motion-based approaches [14], [18], [19], and dimensional-extended method [20], [21].…”

“…Temporal changes of fuzzy line and fuzzy region are missing. At the same time, in order to model fuzzy topological relationships between fuzzy spatio-temporal objects, some efficient approaches have been proposed, mainly including fuzzy set theory-based methods [15], [16], rough set theory-based method [17], point-set topology [13], motion-based approaches [14], [18], [19], and dimensional-extended method [20], [21]. For example, in [17], the authors propose a method to model spatio-temporal topological relationships based on rough set theory.…”
