Gain enhancement for MIMO antenna using metamaterial structure

Abstract: In this paper, a multiple input multiple output antenna which operates at 5.8 GHz for wireless local area network applications is proposed. The proposed antenna is composed of two sets of four elements antenna array (2 × 2) on the top and a novel metamaterial structure on the ground plane. Here, the ground plane, which includes a lattice of 2 × 5 unit cells of metamaterial structure, is utilized in order to improve parameters of the antenna. Thanks to the proposed metamaterial structure, not only gain and band… Show more

“…In addition to this, via is used in References which increases design complexity. The antennas in References are larger in size with LP. Thus, it is clear that a dual band dual polarization (CP and LP), isolation, polarization diversity (RHCP and LHCP), and gain enhancement all have been presented at one place in the proposed work.…”

“…Using the formula in [10], we can calculate the size of each radiation element. Furthermore, we select equal dividers whose principle can be found in [11]. We use the CST Studio software to optimize and obtain that the dimension of each element is 23.6 × 20.8 mm and the distance between elements is approximately 0.4 where is the wavelength in free space.…”

“…Besides, it is conjointly common to use a defected ground structure (DGS), 7 , 8 as a band‐stop filter to attain decoupling. In addition to the normal ways, the strategy of exploitation of the special properties of metamaterials (MTMs) to achieve the required impact is additionally mentioned in, 9 , 10 , 11 The main downside within the metamaterials methodology for enhancing isolation is determinant its form, number of elements, and position in conjunction with the significant quantity of optimization time concerned, and hitherto, no systematic style methodology is obtainable.…”
