Nurses’ job stress is considered as a human resource management’s issue in the hospital. Study literature reviewed 13.6% of ICU nurses encounter the potential threat related to the patient safety occurrences. This study was designed to investigate the correlation between nurses’ job stress and the implementation of patient safety in the hospital in-patient room. This study used a quantitative-analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 30 respondents were recruited by using proportionate random sampling. A self-reported questionnaire was utilized to collect the data. The normality data was tested by using Kolmogorov Smirnov analysis (p<0.05). Spearman Rank test was applied to analyze the overall data. The study findings revealed there was no significant relationship between nurses’ job stress and the patient safety on the target 1 (implementation of patient identification), target 3 (drug safety improvement), target 4 (definitive location and procedure of surgery patient), target 5 (post-health-services infection risk) and target 6 (risk-falls reduction). However, the analysis was found to be statistically significant between nurses’ job stress and effective-communication enhancement (target 2 of patient safety). The study findings concluded that stress could positively impact to improve nurses’ awareness to maintain the 6 targets of patient safety

Peningkatan insiden keselamatan pasien di rumah sakit sering terjadi. Kerja tim antar individu dalam unit kerja dan koordinasi antar unit pelayanan merupakan salah satu upaya untuk mengurangi lejadian yang terkait dengan masalah keselamatan pasien. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peranan kerja tim antar individu dalam unit kerja dan koordinasi antar unit pelayanan terhadap terjadinya insiden keselamatan pasien (IKP) di rumah sakit. Penelitian ini dilakukan di RS Islam Surabaya pada tahun 2020, dilakukan secara deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Unit analisis ditentukan secara total sampling meliputi 18-unit kerja yang memberikan pelayanan kepada pasien dengan responden adalah pimpinan unit atau ruangan, penanggung jawab shift kerja dan penanggung jawab mutu keselamatan pasien. Pengumpulan data responden terkait kerja tim dan koordinasi dalam penanganan keselamatan pasien. Pengumpulan data dilakukan secara online dengan menggunakan google form, dan dianalisis menggunakan tabulasi silang serta pendekatan Pareto (memiliki keterkaitan jika ditemukan perbedaan >20% antara variabel bebas dan variabel terikat). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mayoritas kerja tim sudah baik (83,3%), pelaksanaan koordinasi mayoritas masih kurang baik (83,3%) dan insiden keselamatan pasien masih tergolong tinggi (33,3%). Insiden didominasi oleh Nyaris Cedera dengan peringkat hijau, dan unit rawat jalan memiliki insiden tertinggi. Kerja tim dan koordinasi berperan penting terhadap insiden keselamatan pasien dengan selisih persentase masing-masing sebesar 40,0% (> 20,0%) dari setiap kategori pada kerja tim maupun koordinasi. Penelitian ini menunjukkan kerja tim dan koordinasi berperan penting terhadap terjadinya IKP di rumah sakit. Oleh sebab itu, perlu saling support antar individu dalam tim di setiap unit kerja serta rutin melakukan pertemuan secara bersama membahas patient safety. Highlights: To reduce the occurrence of work-related accidents, the application of occupational safety and health principles in work activities is necessary. This research analyzed the safety communications and safety promotion policies on the safety performance among nurses. Safety communications have influence on safety performance, while safety promotion policies have no influence on safety performance. Abstract: The application of the occupational safety and health principles in work activities is expected to reduce the occurrence of work-related accidents. This research was conducted in the Emergency Department of a tertiary hospital of Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia, in 2019 and aimed to determine the influence of safety communications and safety promotion policies on the safety performance among nurses. This research was a quantitative research with a cross-sectional design study. The population in this study were 208 emergency room nurses at Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital with a total sample of 68 people using a simple random sampling technique. The results showed that the correlation between safety communications variable with safety performance had a p-value of 0.035 (<0.05) and the correlation between safety promotion policies variable with safety performance had a p-value of 0.319 (>0.05), indicating that there was an influence of safety communications on safety performance, while there was no influence of safety promotion policies on safety performance among nurses in the Emergency Department of Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia.
