Gas chromatographic identification of fatty acids, fatty alcohols, and hydrocarbons ofHibiscus rosa‐sinensis leaves

Abstract: Hibiscus rosa-sinensis leaves (family Malvaceae) were analyzed for their fatty acid, fatty alcohol, and hydrocarbon contents. Wax hydrocarbons ranging from C16 to C32 with C23, C25, C27, and C31 as major components and wax alcohols between C21 and C30 with C26, iso-C28, and iso-C30 as major components were found to be present in the petroleum ether fraction of the leaves. Fatty acids ranging from C8 to C28 with C8, C12, C14, CI 6, and C18:2 as major components were found in the combined form. Two cyclic acids,… Show more

“…Among the classified as "non identifiable compounds", the major component was a compound that eluted at 28.3 min; whose molecular ion [M+] was at m/z 662, the base ion was at m/z 316 and other ion at m/z 647 [M-15], which indicate the loss of a methyl group. In general, most of the detected compounds in this study have also been found in other apolar extracts from aerial parts of other Malvaceae, such as Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 10,16 , Hibiscus elatus 14 and Hibiscus tiliaceus L 15 .…”

“…In such work saponines, sugars, alkaloids and flavonoids were identified. However, no report on its non-polar extract had been published, in which other bioactive compounds could be present as it has been reported for other species of hibiscus [10][11][12][13][14][15][16] . Taking into account these facts, the aim of this work was to study the composition of the hexanic extract of the Malvaviscus penduliflorus flowers by GC-MS.…”
