“…1 Essentially all key phenomena used in non-linear optical spectroscopy, such as stimulated Raman scattering, Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS), self focussing, third harmonic generation and others, were demonstrated by simple experiments. In the historical context of non-linear spectroscopy, we might add that a second major impetus to the field came in 1973 with the commercial availability of pulsed Nd:YAG and tunable dye lasers and, above all, the pioneering work of Regnier et al 2 and Regnier and Taran 3 on combustion systems. Hence, it is not surprising that Jean-Pierre Taran represents one of the main initiators of European Conference on Non-Linear Optical Spectroscopy (ECONOS) (formerly European CARS workshop, ECW), back in 1982.…”
