Gas-phase synthesis of hybrid nanostructured materials

Abstract: A chemical vapour deposition route is introduced to construct nano-heterostructured thin film of noble metal or their oxide nanoparticles decorating on 1D WO3 nanorods. The size of nanoparticle is able to be easily tuned by controlling the deposition time showing enhanced photocatalytic property.

“…The XRD pattern of the HWO exhibited (001) and (002) peaks at ~ 23.5° and ~ 47.5°, respectively, characteristic of the non-stoichiometric WO 2.63 (W 32 O 84 ) (PDF 077–0810, a = 21.4 Å, b = 17.8 Å, c = 3.8 Å, α = β = γ = 90°) consistent with their apparent blue color (Fig. 1 b) 48 , 49 . Other peaks at about 20.5°, 27.1°, 28.1°, 30.8°, 35.7°, 36.7°, and 52.7° are allocated to (140), (620), (350), (720), (740), (560) and (970) diffraction planes, of orthorhombic WO 2.63 , respectively 49 .…”

“…Figure 3 A is the full-range spectra of the synthesized Fe 2 O 3 @TNT nanocomposites and the presence of C, Ti, O, Fe elements could be ascertained according to the peaks of C 1s, Ti 2p, O 1s, and Fe 2p. Specifically, the characteristic peak of C 1s situated at ~284.8 eV is attributed to the contaminant carbon, which is used for the calibration of the XPS spectra [ 35 ]. The Ti 2p 1/2 and 2p 3/2 peaks are observed at 464.1 and 458.0 eV respectively, which is in agreement with the typical anatase TiO 2 [ 36 ].…”

“…Thus, the porous structured morphological characteristics curtail the adverse effects including the limited accessible active area and complexity of algae medium diffusion, accelerating the efficient electron transference . The rutile structure of RuO 2 exhibits an inherent submetallic characteristics with the location of Fermi level in the partially filled Ru 4d state, while WO 3 exhibits the monoclinic structure . The heterojunction characteristics observed in the RuO 2 /WO 3 composite via the above structural differences facilitate the charge separation and limit the recombination, which collectively favors the electron transportation in the RuO 2 /WO 3 /CC equipped BPV system …”
