Growing evidence suggests that microRNA plays an essential role in the development and metastasis of many tumors, including gastric cancer. Aberrant miR‑370 expression has been indicated in tumor growth, but the mechanism of miR‑370 inhibits both the proliferation and metastatic ability for gastric cancer remains unclear. Accumulating evidence reported that PTEN signaling pathway plays an important role in the cellular processes, such as apoptosis, cell growth and proliferation. The goal of this study was to identify whether miR‑370 could inhibit the growth, migration, invasion, proliferation and metastasis of gastric cancer through targeting PTEN. Real-time PCR (RT-PCR) was used to quantify miR-370 expression in vitro experiments. The biological functions of miR‑370 were determined via cell proliferation. Our study indicated that miR‑370 targeted PTEN leading to activation of apoptosis signaling and the cell proliferation of cervical cancer cells, ameliorating gastric cancer growth and progression. In addition, the combination of miR‑370 and PTEN inactivated AKT, MDM2 and mTOR while stimulated caspase-3, p53 and GSK3β expression, promoting apoptosis and suppressing proliferation of gastric cancer cells. Therefore, our study revealed the mechanistic links between miR‑370 and PTEN in the pathogenesis of gastric cancer through modulation of cell apoptosis and proliferation. Additionally, targeting miR‑370 could serve as a novel strategy for future gastric cancer therapy clinically.

Background: According to the study population, incidence of gastric polyps (GPs) varies from 0.33% to 6.7% in various studies. Most GPs consist of hyperplastic polyps (HPs), fundic gland polyps (FGPs), and adenomatous polyps (APs). Despite the high malignant APs potential, sporadic FGPs has no malignant potential. On the contrary, HPs has a lower risk of potential harm. It is not sufficient to perform biopsies to determine the presence of polyp types and displacements, therefore, some polyps may require extensive biopsy or complete resection. Methods: This retrospective study included GPs patients or polyphenic lesions with polyps or malignant histology found in polyps or gastroscopy at the Department of Gastroenterology, Shaanxi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from 2017 to 2019.Results: In a series of 10.000 upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, 384 patients (3.84%) were found to have GPs. Of these patients, 98 (25.5) were male and 286(74.5) were female. The average age of the patients was 62.8±10.4 (36-75) years. HPs, APs and FGPs frequencies were 88.5%, 5.2% and 2.1%, respectively. The polyp size of 274 (71.3%) patients was ≤ 1 cm. Polyp was identified in 262 (68.2%) patients. The most common polyps are the antrum and the corpus. Endoscopic mucosal resection was performed on 128 patients. Bleeding events have been observed and endoscopic treatment is required after ESP.Conclusion: In current study, GPs frequency was low (3.84%), and HP frequency may be high due to high frequency of Helicobacter pylori (HPy) infection in China. Due to the high frequency of HPy infection and the short-term use of proton pump use, FGP frequency may be low.

remain unknown. This study aimed to analyze possible risk factors that are associated with the neoplastic transformation of gastric hyperplastic polyps. Results Demographics features. During January 2010 and June 2017, there were 6418 cases of gastric polyp diagnosed. 1115 of these (17.4%, 1115/6418) were histologically confirmed GHPs. 30 of these GHPs (2.69%, 30/1115) were diagnosed as containing dysplasia or adenocarcinoma. The mean age was 61.73 ± 9.024 years old (range 32-79). Absence of Helicobacter pylori was found in 63.6% (35/55). Within the 16 patients who showed evidence of neoplastic transformation there were 12 females and 4 males, the mean age was 63.44 ± 12.27 years (range 32-79). 9 (56.3%) of the patients who had GHPs with neoplastic transformation and 10 (25.6%) of the patients with pure GHPs had a history of anaemia. The patients who had a history of anaemia were more likely to have GHPs with evidence of neoplastic transformation (9/16 vs 10/39 in the GHP patients with or without neoplastic transformation, χ 2 = 4.701, P = 0.030) (Table 1). The initial indications for performing EGD were: 27 patients screening for early gastric cancer, 15 bloating, 4 abdominal pain, 7 heartburn or acid reflux and 2 anaemia. However, 20 patients (36.4%) actually had evidence of anaemia when tested. Only 3 patients took PPI, but all of them had normal fasting serum gastrin-17 concentrations.
