Gastrointestinal actions of garlic oil

Abstract: The effect of garlic oil on gastrointestinal propulsion of charcoal meal and castor oil-induced diarrhoea in mice was studied. It was found to depress both these parameters significantly. It is concluded that garlic oil may act as a potent relaxant of the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract and that it should be further evaluated in patients exhibiting hypermotile intestinal disorders.
