Gastropods as pests in vegetable and ornamental crops in Western Europe.

Abstract: The gastropod pests found in vegetable and ornamental crops in Western Europe, including Deroceras reticulatum, D. laeve, Arion hortensis and A. silvaticus, are presented. The mechanism of pest infestation in Asparagus officinalis, Brussels sprouts, lettuce, curly kale (Brassica oleracea), broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, pea, Phaseolus vulgaris and Chinese cabbage are briefly discussed. The cultural, chemical and biological control of these pests are mentioned.
