Ehretia laevis Roxb. (Boraginaceae) has been extensively used as a traditional remedy for the treatment of a diverse range of ailments related to the respiratory system, the gastrointestinal tract, the reproductive system, and against several infections. This review critically assesses and documents, for the first time, the fragmented information on E. laevis, including its botanical description, folklore uses, bioactive phyto metabolites and pharmacological activities. The goal is to explore this plant therapeutically. Ethnomedicinal surveys reveal that E. laevis has been used by tribal communities in Asian countries for the treatment of various disorders. Quantitative and qualitative phytochemical investigations of E. laevis showed the presence of important phytoconstituents such as pentacyclic triterpenoids, phenolic acids, flavonoids, fatty acids, steroids, alkaloids, aliphatic alcohols, hydrocarbons, amino acids, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Fresh plant parts, crude extracts, fractions and isolated compounds have been reported to exhibit broad spectrum of therapeutic activities viz., antioxidant, antiarthritic, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, antidiarrheal, antidysenteric, wound healing and anti-infective activities. E. laevis is shown to be an excellent potential source of drugs for the mitigation of jaundice, asthma, dysentery, ulcers, diarrhea, ringworm, eczema, diabetes, fissure, syphilis, cuts and wounds, inflammation, liver problems, venereal and infectious disorders. Although few investigations authenticated its traditional uses but employed uncharacterized crude extracts of the plant, the major concerns raised are reproducibility of therapeutic efficacy and safety of plant material. The outcomes of limited pharmacological screening and reported bioactive compounds of E. laevis suggest that there is an urgent need for in-depth pharmacological investigations of the plant.

Natural products are appealing as anticancer agents because of their low toxicity profiles. Cinnamon is a naturally occurring component with a variety of pharmacological properties, including anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, and anti-cancer properties for cancer cell apoptosis. Therefore, the current studies were performed to investigate Anticancer Properties of Cinnamon Phytochemicals on Protein expression in Glioblastoma Multiforme Cell Lines (U87-MG) since the proteins are directly involved in cell survival and function.Hot and cold extraction for Cinnamon performed from Cinnamon verum followed by phytochemicals tests. The Glioblastoma Multiforme Cell Lines U87 was subjected to cell viability by MTT Assay with Addition of cinnamon extract. The protein content was determined by spectrometric assay and its expression was investigated by SDS PAGE.The aqueous Cinnamon extract found to be positive for Alkaloids, Tannins, Saponins, Flavonoids, Terpenoids (only for Hot extract), Phenols and Reducing sugars (only for Cold extract). The cell viability at cinnamon extract concentration of 0.051 mg/100μl is shown to be highest and cell death at maximum cinnamon extract concentration of 1.65 mg/100μl is highest. Further these phytochemicals together showed less protein content on cultured U-87 cells and displayed lower protein expression in gel band pattern when compared to their control. The Cinnamon extract phytochemicals showed significant anticancer properties for reduced U87 cell viability with IC50 0.729. Thus positive phytochemicals result has shown to play an important role in inhibiting cancer properties.by showing less protein content and its expression for cinnamon phytochemicals treated U87 cell lines.

Bee pollen, a bee product, is considered as one of the valuable products in natural medicine, for its excellent therapeutic properties. Cold maceration technique was employed to extract bee pollen and the phytochemical constituents were analysed. The preliminary phytochemical analysis showed the presence of acids, proteins, carbohydrates, phenol, flavonoids, glycosides, anthraquinone, quinone, resins, saponin, tannin, and terpenoids. The advanced phytochemical screening of volatile chemical constituents analyzed using Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) showed 40 volatile chemical compounds from the bee pollen extract. Among those, the hypocholesterolemic effect-related compound of bee pollen was analyzed by in silico docking method, where Oxidosqualene:Ianosterolcyclase (OSC) was taken as a target enzyme which helps in cholesterol biosynthesis. Hexadecanoic acid, Pentadecanoic acid, Pyrroloindole, and Alpha amyrin selected as ligands, and Ro 48-8071 fumarate used as a standard enzyme inhibitor for molecular docking analysis, showed that all the ligands efficiently bound with the target enzyme OSC. Among the four compounds, alpha amyrin had the highest binding interaction energy with the target enzyme (-13.37 kJ mole-1). The OSC enzyme inhibition activity may be responsible for the hypocholesterolemic effect and weight-reducing property of bee pollen.
