Gene Structure Analysis of Rice ADP-ribosylation Factors (OsARFs) and Their mRNA Expression in Developing Rice Plants

Abstract: ADP-ribosylation factors (ARFs) have been widely identified as being involved in regulation of cell differentiation, intracellular vesicle transport, and cytoskeleton organization in animals and plants. To systematically clarify the ARF gene family in rice, eight putative rice ARF genes (OsARFs) were detected by searching the rice genome database. The OsARFs can be classified into class I (OsARFA1a-OsARFA1e) and class II (OsARFB1a-OsARFB1c) by comparing their deduced amino acid sequences with other known ARFs.… Show more

“…A significant amount of the unidentified proteins were classified as hypothetical or predictable. These proteins were annotated in databases as unknown, hypothetical, or putative proteins because of the theoretical translation of open reading frame sequences [77] . The roles of these proteins remain to be investigated.…”

“…Nipponbare) seeds were germinated in breeding trays at the beginning of each summer growing season. Four-leaf-stage seedlings were transplanted in a paddy field of the Experimental Station of Beijing Normal University, with basal dressing applied at a rate of 6.50 g N m À2 , 13.65 g P 2 O 5 m À2 and 9.75 g K 2 O m À2 (Zhou et al 2010). Transgenic plants were grown in a greenhouse under the daily period of 14 h light at 28 C and 10 h dark at 20 C. Tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L.) were germinated and grown in soil at 25 C in long-day conditions (16 h light/8 h dark) with white fluorescent lights (300 mmol m -2 s -1 ) and RH of 65% in a growth chamber.…”

“…Being diverged from a common ancestor around 80 million years ago, rice serves as the staple food for more than half of the global population, whereas foxtail millet is primarily cultivated as a food and fodder crop in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. In rice, a preliminary study identified eight putative ARF genes ( OsARF ) 28 ; however, no comprehensive analysis of ARF gene family members has been reported thus far. Similarly, information on the structure, organization, and evolution of ARF genes in foxtail millet are not available yet.…”
