Genera and species of the Liothrips lineage (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae) from Taiwan 

Abstract

This paper lists from Taiwan 11 genera and 28 species of Thysanoptera of the Liothrips lineage. A key is provided to the 11 genera, and Psephenothrips baiheensis sp.n. and P. cymbidas sp.n. are described. A key to the 12 Liothrips species recorded from Taiwan is provided, with two new species, L. dayuilinensis sp.n. and L. hsuae sp.n. One new combination is presented, Liophloeothrips terminaliae (Moulton) comb.n., and Psephenothrips leptoceras Okajima from Japan is newly recorded from Taiwan.

Studies on the genus Psephenothrips Reyes from China (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae), with one new species

More recently, Wang and Lin (2020) published keys to 11 genera and 28 species of Liothrips-lineage from Taiwan. However, there is a lack of information about the Liothrips fauna of mainland China and preparation of suitable identification systems will require a great deal of work studying slide-mounted specimens and establishing host associations through extensive field work.…”

“…Worldwide, there are seven species listed in this genus (ThripsWiki 2021), of which the type species P. strasseni was described from Philippines, P. leptoceras, P. cinnamomi and P. machili from Japan and P. moundi from India (Reyes 1994;Okajima 2006;Tyagi and Kumar 2012). Recently, Wang and Lin (2020) reported four species in this genus from Taiwan, of which P. baiheensis and P. cymbidas were new species. Presumably, these species all feed on green leaves, although P. leptoceras and P. baiheensis were collected from dead branches and wood.…”

A new species of Psephenothrips (Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripidae) from China

Leaf-feeding species of the genus Liothrips from China (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae)

“…In contrast, Haplothrips includes 240 species, Frankliniella comprises 239 species, and the genus Thrips has 303 species (ThripsWiki 2023). However, there is no satisfactory identification system to Liothrips species known from China, although Han (1997b) provided a key to 11 species, Feng et al (2021) to 22 species, and Wang and Lin (2020) a key to 12 species from Taiwan, China. A modern key to 24 Liothrips species from Japan (Okajima 2006) is helpful to recognize some species from China, but no identification systems are available to the rich faunas of most tropical countries.…”
