Generating Cultural Personas from Social Data: A Perspective of Middle Eastern Users

Abstract: We conduct a mixed-method study to better understand the content consumption patterns of Middle Eastern social media users and to explore new ways to present online data by using automatic persona generation. First, we analyze millions of content interactions on YouTube to dynamically generate personas describing behavioral patterns of different demographic groups. Second, we analyze interview data on social media users in the Middle Eastern region to generate additional insights into the dynamically generated… Show more

“…These tools enable the sharing of knowledge, awareness, interaction, information, news, political, media and facts related to Middle Eastern culture; this occurs globally as well as among the students in these countries. Therefore, this reinforcement has changed the mindset of Middle Eastern students in regard to technology, sustainability, and culture ( Alshoaibi, 2019 ; Nasrallah and Sarkis, 2020 ; Salminen et al., 2017 ).…”

“…Researchers are increasingly developing methodologies for DDPs (McGinn and Kotamraju 2008;Zhang, Brown, and Shankar 2016) and automatic persona generation (An et al 2018a;An et al 2018b), mainly due to the increase in the availability of online user data and to increase the robustness of personas given the alternative forms of user understanding (Jansen, Salminen, and Jung 2020). DDPs typically leverage quantitative social media and online analytics data to create personas that represent users or customers of a specific channel 1 (Salminen et al 2017). Regarding the development of DDPs, for the generated pictures to be useful for personas, they need to be 'taken for real', meaning that they do not hinder the user perceptions of the personas (e.g.…”

“…With the application of multiple physical media devices represented by flexible screens and transparent screens, the information display of smart vehicles can appear in almost all areas inside and outside the vehicle. For example, Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode, as a new generation of display panels, breaks the limitations of traditional rectangular screens, can realize special-shaped screen cutting and meet different design requirements [25][26][27]. At the same time, AMOLED has both flexible characteristics, which may subvert the current design concept of onboard display screens, so that it can appear in smart vehicles in a broader range and more forms.…”
