Generating Functional Mockup Units from Software Specifications

Abstract: This paper presents an approach to use the Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) for integration of classical controller specifications and statechartbased specifications of real-time critical message exchange protocols. The Functional Mockup Unit (FMU) is automatically generated from the specification. Using the generated FMU we are able to exploit simulation facilities as provided by Modelica/Dymola.

“…Several authors discuss ways of implementing master algorithms [3,6,22] and how to generate and implement FMUs for the current FMI cosimulation standard [8,20]. However, in this paper we formalize requirements and test cases that are needed for the next standard that should include a sound interface for hybrid co-simulation.…”

“…There has been very practical work on new master algorithms, generation of FMUs and simulations, and hybrid models [2,22,11,9]. Tripakis [25] shows how components with different underlying models (state machines, synchronous data flow, and so on) can be encoded as FMUs.…”

“…They provide high level guidelines for how to generate Statechart FMUS, but do not provide a formalization. Pohlmann et al [18] also describe how to encode statechart models, described in MechatronicUML. Their paper is also discussing implementation strategies, but the implementation is for FMI for model exchange and not co-simulation.…”
