Generation of a 481-W Single Frequency and Linearly Polarized Beam by Coherent Polarization Locking

Abstract: We demonstrate active coherent polarization locking of two high power polarization-maintained fiber amplifiers using single frequency dithering technique. When the active phasing system is in the closed loop, a 481-W single frequency and polarization-maintained laser beam with near-diffraction-limited beam quality is generated in the circumstance of imbalanced power ratio of the two amplifiers. The beam quality (M 2 factor) of the coherently polarization locked beam is measured to be < 1.2 and the polarization… Show more

“…12) Based on the reimaging waveguide aperture-filling technique, more than 100 W power level had been presented in a four-channel system with an 80% combining efficiency. 14) The coherent polarization beam combining (CPBC) technique had been validated both in continuouswave operation [15][16][17][18][19] and a pulsed regime. 20,21) Recently, in the continuous-wave operation, we have validated the extendibility of the active CPBC system to eight fiber lasers, 18) and scaled the power of the CPBC system by employing two high-power fiber amplifiers.…”

With active phasing, a near diffraction-limited, 680 W coherently combined beam is generated with 75.2% combining efficiency.…”
