Generic revision of Cypricercinae McKenzie, 1971 (Crustacea, Ostracoda), with the description of three new genera and one new species and a phylogenetic analysis of the subfamily

Abstract: The Cypricercinae are one of the most speciose subfamilies of non-marine ostracods, with more than 170 described species, mostly from the tropics. Although the identity of the subfamily as such is clear, because of the presence of unifying characters such as the Triebel's loop in the attachment of the caudal ramus, the supra-specific taxonomy of this group has long been confused because of lack of good generic and tribal characters. Here, the generic characters of the Cypricercinae are revised. Eleven genera a… Show more

“…Tribe Nealecypridini Savatenalinton & Martens, 2009 The Tribe Nealecypridini includes the genera Astenocypris G. W. Müller, 1912, Diaphanocypris Würdig & Pinto, 1990, Nealecypris Savatenalinton & Martens, 2009and Tanycypris Triebel, 1959. These species differ from other Cypricercinae-tribes by a narrow carapace in dorsal view, a Triebel loop either without vb or with a short vb, located in the middle of the distal CR attachment (Savatenalinton & Martens 2009a).…”

“…The valves in Okubo (1972: fig. 1a-c) show a much higher congruence with those of T. siamensis Savatenalinton & Martens (Savatenalinton & Martens 2009a: fig. 8A) than with Tressler's drawings of Strandesia camaguinensis (= Tanycypris pellucida Klie 1932).…”
