Genetic and genomic analysis of oxygen consumption in mice

Abstract: We estimated genetic parameters for oxygen consumption (OC), OC per metabolic body weight (OCMBW) and body weight at three through 8 weeks of age in divergently selected mice populations, with an animal model considering maternal genetic, common litter environmental and cytoplasmic inheritance effects. Cytoplasmic inheritance was considered based on maternal lineage information. With respect to OC, estimated direct heritability was moderate (0.32) and the estimated proportion of the variance of cytoplasmic inh… Show more

“…Takada et al ( 2008 ) observed a decrease in average daily feed intake and feed efficiency, along with a decrease in ADG under hot conditions. The decrease in feed efficiency might be explained by the balance of energy allocation to maintenance and gain (e.g., Herd & Arthur, 2009 ; Ogawa, Darhan, & Suzuki, 2022 ; Zhang et al, 2014 ). A plateau‐linear regression analysis of D105 was also performed, but the coefficient of determination of the regression equation obtained was 0.04 and lower than that for ADG.…”

“…Network and functional enrichment analyses provide further insights into the results (e.g., Falker‐Gieske et al, 2020; Johnsson et al, 2018; Ogawa et al, 2022). In this study, to determine whether MPO is a potential candidate gene for both fear‐related behavior and FP, protein–protein interaction network analysis was performed using the STRING database version 11.5 (Szklarczyk et al, 2019; accessed on March 12, 2022).…”
