Genetic Diversity Analysis and Determination of Specific Alleles of Kuantan Cattle Using Microsatellite Markers

Abstract: Kuantan cattle have an important role in Riau Province, Indonesia. Identification of the genetic diversity of these cattle is important to get the basic information for breeding and conservation strategies. The aim of this research was to identify the genetic diversity of Kuantan cattle using microsatellite markers. A total of thirty-nine DNA samples from three breeds were used in this study. The polymerase chain reaction was conducted using four labeled primers of microsatellite (INRA035, ILSTS06, HEL9 and ET… Show more

“…This cattle is widely raised by the local community. Kuantan cattle have been designated in the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Agriculture Decree Number 1052/Kpts/SR.120/10/2014 which states that Kuantan cattle are a wealth of genetic resources for local Indonesian livestock and have a lineage from Bos Indicius cattle [1].…”

“…Microsatellite markers due to their availability, low cost, and sufficient information content remain one of the most common markers for studies of genetic resources of farm animals (Selionova et al, 2021). Microsatellite markers are widely used for genetic characterization of different species such as cattle (Misrianti et al, 2022), water buffalo (Ünal et al, 2021), goat (Cañón et al, 2006;Lenstra et al, 2017), sheep (Cinkulov et al, 2008;Hoda et al, 2009;Peter et al, 2007), carp (Biba et al, 2015), horse (Machmoum et al, 2020) etc.…”

“…Indonesia boasts 15 distinct breeds of local cattle, including the Kuantan breed, which has been officially recognized in the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Agriculture Decree Number 1052/Kpts/SR.120/10/2014. This decree acknowledges Kuantan cattle as valuable genetic resources within the country's livestock sector, tracing their lineage back to Bos Indicus cattle (Misrianti et al, 2022). The qualitative and quantitative characteristics of Kuantan cattle have been extensively studied by Misrianti et al in 2018.…”
