“…This is understandable as product amplified depends upon the sequence of random primers and their compatibility within genomic DNA. The number of markers detected by each primer depends on primer sequence and the extent of genetic variation, which is genotype specific (Upadhyay et al, 2004). The percent of polymorphic loci reported was upto 94 % using RAPD markers for Pinus gerardiana, which was higher than this study (87.50 %), although lower levels of percent polymorphic loci were also reported viz.…”

“…The RAPD method has advantages over other kinds of DNA-based genetic markers: it is relatively quick, easy to perform, comparatively cheap, highly informative, need no information of template DNA sequence and synthesis of specific markers more amiable to automation than conventional techniques and required only nanogram quantities of DNA. The dominant polymorphism between individual samples/races is indicated by the presence or absence of a particular RAPD fragment and extensively applied for assessing genetic diversity and relationship measures in various plant species (Bauvet et al, 2004;Upadhyay et al, 2004). Different types of molecular work have been reported on S. rebaudiana, and the first foundation for Stevia on molecular breeding was laid with the use of RAPD markers to construct a genetic linkage map of the Stevia genome using segregation data from a pseudo test-cross F1 population (Yao et al, 1999).…”

“…Molecular markers, detect variation at the DNA level and are detectable at all stages of development. Since they can also cover the entire genome, DNA markers overcome most limitations of morphological and biochemical markers (Ashburner et al, 1997;Teulat et al, 2000;Upadhyay et al, 2004;Manimekalai et al, 2006). Among available molecular marker techniques, simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers provide good signal in evaluating genetic diversity and genetic relationships in plants.…”
