ABSTRACTThe daily forest species acquires more importance in society, not only because it is a several industry proposal, but also for its role in the greenhouse effect and urban thermal comfort. Comparing these species with the highest economic value, information on the effect of aluminuim (Al) in these plants is scarce. The parameters, root length, root growth rate (TCR) and relative root elongation (ERR%), normally used in aluminum toxicity studies in annual crops, were used to verify aluminum toxicity in the Angico Vermelho (Anadenanthera macrocarpa (Benth.) Brenan) and Pata-de-Vaca (Bauhinia variegata L.). The experiments were carried out in simple solutions containing only calcium (0.1 mM) and in a complete solution, of low ionic strength and balanced, with the seeds germinated in sand and later the seedlings transferred to the solutions for 8 to 18 days with concentration of aluminum from 50 to 800. The results indicated that the parameters tested could be used to study aluminum toxicity in these
