Genetic variability of the CRC and MYF4 genes in genetic resource, Přeštice Black-Pied pig

Abstract: The study of molecular genetic variability in genetic resources of farm animals is necessary for optimal conduct of their breeding and for understanding of relations between molecular markers and traits. The determination of variability in the CRC and the MYF4 genes and the evaluation of associations between these genetic markers and the total number born, the number born alive and the number weaned of piglets, weaning weight of piglets and farrowing interval were carried out in population of 102 Přeštice Blac… Show more

“…The AA genotype proved the largest litter size. Our study indicates that the myogenin gene influences the reproduction traits such as service period and insemination interval; nevertheless we did not confirm the results of Horák et al (2004). Because of such a low number of sows with BB ge-notypes further study is necessary to say the last word about the usefulness of the MYOG gene in practical breeding.…”

“…Our study did not confirm these effects. The influence of the myogenin gene on reproductive traits was studied only by Horák et al (2004) in the population of Přeštice Black-Pied sows. They found significant differences between the numbers of piglets weaned in sows with AA and AB, BB genotype in the 1 st -6 th parities and in the 2 nd to 6 th parities.…”

“…It was recognized as a distinct breed in 1964, and since 1996 it has been bred in a closed population. Within that population, genetic markers in association with reproduction traits (Horák et al 2004, Horák et al 2005 and gene polymorphisms associated with meat performance traits (Zrůstová et al 2009) have been studied, but until recently semen quality had not been evaluated. Therefore, the objective of this study, conducted over a test period from 2001 to 2009, was to examine the semen quality parameters of the Přeštice black-pied breed while taking into account the potential effects of collection month and boar age.…”

“…Muscle fibre formation takes place during embryonic development in mammals and is controlled by the MyoD gene family, which consists of four genes, MyoD1 (MYF3), myogenin (MYOG or MYF4), MYF5 and MYF6 (MRF4) (Horák et al, 2004;Zhang et al, 2007;Ujan et al, 2011). The expression of the MYF5 and MYOD1 (MYF3) genes plays a fundamental role during myoblast proliferation, while the expression of the MYOG (MYF4) and the MYF6 (MRF4) genes is linked to the differentiation and maturation of myofibres (Stupka et al, 2012).…”
