Genetic variations are associated with lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer patients

Abstract: Certain SNPs can increase genetic susceptibility to LN metastasis. As the number of risk alleles increases, the risk of LN metastasis also increases, although the difference is subtle.

“…Furthermore, many SNP-associated genes were also associated with adhesion-and immune-related signaling pathways, including adherens junction, chemokine signaling pathway, and cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction [26]. Otherwise, Lan and colleagues demonstrated that genetic polymorphisms of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) increased susceptibility to lymph node metastasis in CRC patients [27]. All these data suggested that the polymorphisms of those immunerelated genes play an important role in the metastasis of CRC.…”

“…In total, 1475 CRC patients underwent surgery at the Taipei Veterans General Hospital from 2000 to 2010 (Approval by the Institutional Review Board of Taipei Veterans General Hospital (number 2013-04-042B) [ 40 , 41 , 42 ]. Exclusion criteria were preoperative radio chemotherapy, emergency operations, or death within 30 days of surgery.…”

“…Similarly, Lan et al examined 629 patient colorectal cancer samples for genetic factors that can help distinguish LN status [31]. Rather than genes, however, the authors of this study looked for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the genome.…”
